- Summary
The Law Clerk is responsible for providing assisting staff in preparation of files and prosecution of felony cases.
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists prosecutors and office staff in preparing files for prosecution.
- Performs legal research for criminal cases.
- Prepares legal documents and case summaries.
- Interviews witnesses
- Answers telephones, makes copies and organizes case files.
- Individuals who have completed two thirds of their legal education and have been sworn in under the Third Year Practice Act, are able to represent the State in all criminal matters in the court room under direct supervision of a prosecuting attorney.
- Education, Training and Experience
The Law Clerk should be a current student in an accredited institution focused on the area of Law.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:- Must have valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
- Must be willing to work 20 hours per week while in School and 40 hours per week during summer break.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of legal procedures, forms, documents and terminology, business letter writing, general office procedures and practices, the Uniform Rules of the Court, correct English grammar, spelling and punctuation, as well as arithmetic computations.
- Knowledge and ability to use personal computers and relevant programs.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality and security of private or confidential information.
- Ability to work effectively with members of all levels within the organization and public.
- Ability to achieve results on timely basis.
