GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB

Quad seeks a talented, dynamic, and motivated attorney to become a key member of its legal team. This Corporate Counsel, Advertising & Marketing position presents a unique opportunity to focus on a broad range of advertising, intellectual property, and commercial law related activities, including campaign and claim review, targeted data-driven advertising and related data privacy, emerging issues including artificial intelligence, influencer engagement, social media and other channel advertising, promotions guidance, contract negotiations, and copyright and trademark issues. 

 

This position also will participate in go to market strategies for new offerings and providing advertising related services to regulated industries, such as financial services, health care, and gaming. This position reports to the Deputy General Counsel and Data Privacy Officer.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate for the position of Corporate Counsel, Advertising & Marketing will have significant responsibility collaborating with our agency service and operations teams, corporate marketing, division leaders, and corporate contracting departments. 

 

Key responsibilities of this position will include:

 

  • Serve as one of the Company’s "go to" lawyers for business matters 
  • Provide counseling with respect to marketing and advertising liability and risks, and related ancillary issues.
  • Participate in a collaborative manner in cross-functional business teams to identify, evaluate, and resolve complex business issues.
  • Coordinate with internal departments such as Client Contracts and Procurement to establish terms and negotiate contracts with clients and vendors.
  • Conduct legal research as needed
  • Participate in events, meetings, trainings, and other activities as requested
  • Manage outside counsel for all areas of responsibility
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

Experience: 

  • 4 to 10+ years of specialized experience in advertising, intellectual property, and commercial contracts

 

Education: 

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school

  • Must have a valid license to practice law issued from the Wisconsin Bar or equivalent state Bar.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

 

A successful candidate must be a result driven, self-starter and strong project leader in a fast-paced environment, who likes working on complex projects with multi-functional teams and will have:

  • Familiarity with federal and state advertising regulations, intellectual property licensing and clearance, and digital media ecosystems.

  • Experience negotiating commercial contracts within the marketing and advertising services segments 
  • Familiarity with the American Association of Advertising Agencies (the 4As) and Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and their standards and form agreements.
  • Project management skills in driving results across the organization and be comfortable independently providing general advice to businesses on operations and best practices. 
  • Ability to handle multiple areas of responsibilities autonomously and to apply business acumen and think beyond being an attorney in a rapidly evolving business and business culture. 
  • A positive attitude and strong analytical and problem-resolution skills to be a creative, innovative team player with exceptional business judgement
  • Ability to think strategically and give practical advice by balancing business needs with legal risks
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to manage several simultaneous projects in a detail-oriented and proactive manner under deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to learn legal or business concepts not initially familiar
