Assistant United States Attorney (Chief, Asset Forfeiture Division)

The Chief Assistant United States Attorney for the Asset Forfeiture Division serves as the senior legal and managerial authority overseeing all aspects of the District's asset forfeiture program. The Chief provides strategic leadership, supervises complex litigation, coordinates interagency enforcement activities, and ensures consistent, effective application of federal asset forfeiture and money laundering laws.

The major duties and responsibilities encompass providing executive oversight of all operational, policy, and strategic activities within the Asset Forfeiture Division, ensuring alignment with Department of Justice priorities and legal mandates; supervising attorneys, paralegals, and professional staff engaged in forfeiture litigation, offering guidance, mentorship, and performance review; and ensures uniform application of federal forfeiture statutes and related regulatory frameworks across cases handled within the district.

The Chief Assistant United States Attorney directs and supervises the prosecution of complex civil, criminal, and administrative forfeiture actions, including drafting complaints, seeking seizure warrants, conducting discovery, litigating motions, and managing appeals. In additional to providing high-level advice on evidentiary issues, investigative strategy, financial crime analysis, and case theory development, the Chief serves as primary liaison with federal, state, local, and international law enforcement partners to coordinate investigations and prosecutions involving forfeitable assets.

Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.

• J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 10 years(s) post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.

United States citizenship is required.

Strong academic credentials, superior legal research and writing skills, quick analytical ability to accurately and precisely articulate critical case-related issues, courtroom experience, good interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a supportive and professional team environment with partnering agencies, support staff and other attorneys, and a demonstrated commitment to public service.
