Job Summary:

The Jr. AOS Immigration Attorney will play a critical role within our legal team, focusing on Adjustment of Status (AOS) cases for clients seeking permanent residency in the United States after being granted humanitarian visas. This entry-level position is ideal for attorneys passionate about immigration law and dedicated to providing high-quality legal support to clients navigating the complexities of U.S. immigration processes. The Jr. AOS Immigration Attorney will work closely with senior attorneys, paralegals, and case managers, providing direct legal representation and guidance to clients throughout their AOS journey.

Key Responsibilities:

Case Preparation and Management:

  • Prepare and file AOS petitions (Form I-485) along with supporting documentation, including Forms I-131, I-765, and other related forms as necessary.
  • Review and analyze client documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and eligibility.
  • Review Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) results as needed for background checks and case assessments.
    Develop personalized legal strategies to address complex or unique cases.
    Address any grounds of inadmissibility that may have occurred since humanitarian visa approval and submission of application.
  • Review Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) results as needed for background checks and case assessment.

Advocacy and Representation:

  • Prepare clients for AOS interviews at USCIS field offices, including mock interviews and document reviews, if required.
  • Accompany clients to AOS interviews as needed, providing real-time legal support, if required.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree or LLM from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in the United States.
  • 2 years of experience in immigration law, preferably with a focus on family-based immigration and Adjustment of Status cases.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. immigration laws, particularly AOS, family petitions, and related forms.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in legal case management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
  • Fluency in a second language (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, or another language commonly spoken by the firm's clientele) is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in an immigration law firm or nonprofit organization.
  • Familiarity with consular processing, waivers (I-601, I-601A), and VAWA petitions.
  • Experience representing clients before USCIS, EOIR, or BIA.
  • Understanding of the implications of criminal convictions on immigration status.
  • Strong public speaking and client counseling abilities.
