The mission of the District Attorney’s Office is to keep the community safe and to make the criminal justice system better through the fair and ethical prosecution of criminal offenders, while seeking justice for victims of crime.

The Restitution Technician performs a variety of moderately complex general clerical duties in completion of restitution for criminal cases on behalf of deputy district attorneys within the Victim Programs Unit. Works under the general direction of the Director of Victim Programs. General work assignments are the result of a variety of sources and require some analysis of facts to respond, prioritize and arrange; individual assignments are performed according to standard unit procedures and encompass a variety of operations for completion. Restitution Technicians support the mission of the District Attorney’s Office to protect the community and make the criminal justice system better and serve victims of crime.

Examples of Duties for Success

General Duties:

  • Reviews case files to identify all victims and ensure they receive timely and accurate information on the process for requesting restitution for crime-related losses. 
  • Coordinates with victims of crime, collateral agencies, colleagues, and the public to obtain, clarify, and verify financial documentation, ensuring all claimed losses are directly linked to the criminal case and accurately support restitution requests.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and processes returned Victim Restitution Request forms and Victim Impact Statements and supporting documentation to verify and substantiate claimed losses.  
  • Assembles and assesses complex data and financial figures based on verification of crime-related losses.
  • Prepares restitution-related notices, motions, and exhibits using verified supporting documentation or as requested by the assigned deputy district attorney
  • Establishes and maintain a working knowledge of the restitution statute (C.R.S. 18-1.3-601 et al.) and pertinent case laws.
  • Documents case work / status in the database program.
  • Serves as a point of contact for restitution related inquiries, providing clear procedural information or directing inquiries to the appropriate staff.
  • Demonstrates ongoing commitment to teamwork and working in a collaborative, supportive environment.
To be successful, our ideal candidate should have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Standard office procedures and forms applicable to the specific unit and/or assignment.
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of standard legal/court procedures and legal terminology, knowledge of spelling, punctuation, and grammar. 
  • The ability to process work using database programs and or specific software programs.
  • Ability to follow semi-complex oral and written instructions. 
  • Ability to prioritize and organize large volumes of cases and/or data to meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with attorneys, support staff, victims, and collateral agencies. 
  • Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, fellow workers, attorneys, police, therapists, medical providers, and related agencies' personnel and the other stakeholders, including victims, witnesses, and clients.
  • Exercise attention to detail in performing assigned work tasks for accuracy and completeness. 
  • Operate standard office equipment, e.g., personal computer, 10-key calculator, copier, scanner, and fax.
  • Perform standard and moderately complex mathematical calculations and gain working knowledge of simple bookkeeping procedures. 
  • Proficient in problem solving with the ability to map and interpret complex cases while working independently. 
  • Demonstrate a victim-centered approach, with the ability to interact empathetically, professionally, and respectfully with victims and stakeholders in emotionally charged or sensitive situations.  


Qualifications for Success

•High school diploma or GED equivalent.
•A minimum of one (1) year progressively responsible administrative work
•Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred but not required.
•Minimum of one (1) year experience working in a legal environment preferred.
•Must pass a criminal background check
