Job Description

The Associate IP Counsel will work with R&D partners and the IP Department to support our bioproduction and biosciences. This role includes managing IP strategies and developing patent portfolios in various areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop robust patent portfolios in the areas of cell biology, cell and gene therapy, genome editing, and related fields.
  • Capture strategic innovations and review invention submissions with IP Review Boards to protect Company IP and foster a culture of innovation.
  • Advise collaborators on risk mitigation strategies, such as conducting freedom to operate analyses for new product launches.
  • Drive revenue generation through commercial contract and licensing negotiations.
  • Develop and implement focused IP strategies to support business and commercial goals.
  • Educate key collaborators to protect company assets.
  • Participate in IP Department initiatives, embodying a leader with vision and encouraging collaboration and teamwork.
Required Experience and Skills:

Education

  • Technical degree in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Experience
  • 6+ years of experience in managing global patent portfolios in cell biology, cell and gene therapy, or genome editing.
  • 3+ years of law firm experience required.
  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience in a scientific or engineering field preferred.
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing in at least one U.S. state.
