Job Description

Role Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Business Analyst to support strategic, financial, and operational initiatives, with a strong emphasis on legal matter management, eBilling (ONIT), invoice review, and spend management. This role sits at the intersection of finance, technology, risk management, and process optimization, enabling data-driven decision-making, automation, and governance across the legal function.

The ideal candidate brings a strong accounting and analytical foundation and experience driving process improvement and legal technology enablement. This individual will partner closely with Legal Operations, Legal, Finance, Risk, Procurement, and Technology teams to improve transparency, controls, efficiency, and business outcomes related to legal spend and vendor management.

Key Responsibilities

Financial & Spend Management Enablement

  • Analyze and interpret financial data related to legal spend, matter budgets, accruals, invoices, vendor performance, and cost drivers using the firm’s eBilling and matter management platform (ONIT)

  • Support legal spend planning, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, ensuring alignment with accounting standards, billing guidelines, and internal controls

  • Perform and support detailed legal invoice review within ONIT to ensure compliance with approved budgets, billing guidelines, rate agreements, and engagement terms

  • Identify billing discrepancies, non-compliant charges, and cost trends and partner with outside counsel to resolve invoice issues

  • Develop financial models, dashboards, and analyses to support outside counsel performance reviews, rate negotiations, and strategic vendor decisions

  • Translate complex legal spend and invoice data into clear, executive-level insights for senior leadership

Matter Management, eBilling & Technology Enablement

  • Partner with department Business Intelligence team to optimize the use of ONIT for matter management, eBilling, invoice review, and spend reporting

  • Support the end-to-end matter lifecycle, including matter intake, budgeting, accruals, invoice submission, review, approvals, and matter close-out

  • Identify and drive opportunities to streamline and standardize matter management and billing workflows through automation, system enhancements, and process redesign

  • Support requirements gathering, testing, and implementation of ONIT enhancements

  • Ensure data integrity and consistency across matter budgets, accruals, invoices, and actual spend

Business Strategy & Stakeholder Partnership

  • Partner with senior stakeholders to understand legal and business priorities and translate them into actionable analytical and operational solutions

  • Support strategic initiatives related to legal modernization, cost optimization, and operational scalability

  • Contribute to the development of operating models, governance frameworks, and decision-support tools

  • Act as a trusted advisor, balancing strategic insight with disciplined execution

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field

  • 2–3 years of experience in Operations, Finance, Risk, Procurement, Vendor Management, or Legal Operations

  • Strong accounting and financial analysis skills, including budgeting, forecasting, accruals, and cost analysis

  • Experience supporting legal spend management, matter management, eBilling, or invoice review platforms (ONIT or comparable systems preferred)

  • Demonstrated experience with process improvement and technology enablement

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with large, complex datasets

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate financial and technical concepts for non-technical audiences

Salary Range:

$60,000 - $101,250 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
