The 7th Judicial District has an opening for a District Court Staff Attorney at the Scott County Court House in Davenport, Iowa.
The starting salary for new State of Iowa Judicial Branch employees is expected to be at the base of the pay range. The annual salary for this position is $65,416.00 – $106,433.60 and is considered FLSA-exempt. Adjustments may be made if the successful applicant has relevant experience.

Overview:
District Court Staff Attorneys are responsible for providing professional legal services for the District Court to help the court process and dispose of cases and are directly responsible to the District Court Administrator. Employees in this class may also assist in the recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of law clerks.
The responsibilities for this position include:
- Supervise the work and performance of law clerks while also providing mentorship and training.
- Performs extensive research, prepares memoranda, orally briefs the court, and drafts proposed rulings and orders for review by the presiding judge.
- Assist Judges of the District Court by researching issues, preparing memoranda or drafting proposed rulings and orders on regular submission cases.
- Conducts electronic and manual research of statutes, opinions, regulations, legal texts, policies and other legal resources.
- Assists the district court administrator in the attraction, recruitment, evaluation and selection and of new law clerks.

Graduation from an ABA accredited law school, admission to practice law in Iowa; thirty-six months of experience in a law clerk position; or thirty-six months in the practice of law in the courts of Iowa, another state or the federal courts.
