Associate General Counsel, Head of Product and Coverage

Join Our Team  

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Product and Coverage attorney to lead our Product and Coverage Counsel team. In this role, you will lead the development and enhancement of our insurance products from a legal perspective, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and alignment with business objectives. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive product innovation and strategy.  Further, you will oversee and provide expert guidance to claims professionals, conduct coverage analyses and advise the product team on wordings impact.  The role reports to the Chief Legal Officer.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the product and coverage team to develop and execute product strategies and advise on policy wordings and language impact that align with the company’s vision and goals. 
  • Draft, review and negotiate re/insurance policies and contracts. 
  • Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with re/insurance product features and functionalities.
  • Serve as lead liaison with regulators in connection with managing product filing processes as needed.
  • Support the entire product lifecycle from ideation to launch, ensuring products meet business needs and regulatory requirements. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including underwriting, finance, claims, and pricing to ensure seamless product development, wordings, implementation and support. 
  • Provide expert legal advice to underwriting on policy wordings, development and enhancements, including regulatory requirements, claims & coverage impact and filing strategy.
  • Guide and support the strong feedback loop of lessons learned and implement processes to capture and respond to wordings enhancement and remediation needs. 
  • Provide expert legal advice to claim professionals on coverage questions
  • Prepare coverage position letters on selected high complexity/exposure claims.
  • Manage and oversee coverage litigation against the Company.
  • Manage and oversee allegations of bad faith and ECO/XPL exposure against the Company.
  • Assist in preparing witnesses, discovery, selecting and managing panel counsel, and delivering better coverage litigation management processes.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends to provide accurate and current advice.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Your skills and abilities should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent required; Master’s degree (M.A.) or equivalent or CFA preferred; and at least 15 years of related experience and/or training, including prior experience managing insurance portfolios.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of NAIC / RBC and BMA / BSCR capital regimes
  • CFA Designation required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of investment practices, procedures and principles, sufficient to interpret and analyze complex concepts and apply these in innovative ways
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop creative approaches and solutions necessary to pragmatically solve complex problems
  • Strong negotiating skills and ability to resolve conflicts to achieve objectives.
  • Self-motivated and proactive with a focus on continuous professional development
  • Strong leadership skills, including the desire and aptitude to build direct reports’ skills and team culture
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and successfully with co-employees, customers, and other outside third parties.
  • Position manages large quantities of information and assesses those that are relevant to investment thesis. Makes significant decisions without complete information.
  • Substantial intellectual reasoning, problem solving capacity and disciplined strategy execution are keys to this position.
     

SALARY:  The estimated salary range for this position is $250,000 per year to $300,000 per year. This is a good-faith assessment of the salary range for this position only.  In determining the actual salary within this range, SiriusPoint will consider a candidate’s relevant experience, location, and other job-related factors.
