
JOB SUMMARY:
This role involves managing administrative tasks associated with legal eviction cases. Responsibilities include editing and preparing correspondence and legal documents, maintaining electronic files, handling extensive calendaring and performing e-filing in state and city courts. The position also requires regular electronic communications with clients via proprietary websites to provide case status updates and seek fee approvals. The paralegal will work directly with, and report to, a Partner in firm’s eviction practice who is licensed in New York and New Jersey. This position will be based out of our office in Iselin, NJ, with the potential for a hybrid assignment as well.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Independently prepare and format eviction complaints, routine pleadings correspondence, and other legal documents.
- Read and electronically organize e-mails.
- File pleadings electronically with courts; mail service of documents and correspondence.
- Maintain, organize and update firm and client systems with case status and progress notes.
- Submit fee approval requests in client systems and enter billable time entries in the firm’s system.
- Schedule and coordinate appointments and other meetings for the Partner.
- Work closely with the Partner to drive the New York evictions portfolio.
- Proofread legal documents as required, and assemble exhibits, ensuring proper redaction.
- Paralegal will provide support to the Legal Team in a high volume, time sensitive work environment.
- Provide service and client status updates; follow-up on outstanding documents and/or services; coordinate with title companies, process servers or other contacts to complete outstanding tasks such as missing documents.
- Assist with portfolio/inventory management.
- Manage and organize production of documents; identify privileged documents.
- Generate reports and follow-up on identified outstanding tasks.
- Will perform other duties and responsibilities as needed.
EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum High School diploma or equivalent; Secondary education or some college a plus
- Minimum 4-6 year Litigation Paralegal experience with knowledge of eviction proceedings strongly preferred.
- Paralegal certification preferred.
- Proficiency with New York’s e-filing platforms required; Knowledge of the e-filing process in New Jersey a plus.
- Experience with Default Real Estate and/or Eviction Processes a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Must have a positive attitude and be a team player.
- Provide legal support to Partner and team.
- Manage a portfolio of files for Partner and clients.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with clerks or Judges in various courts, defense attorneys.
- Must provide excellent customer service (internally and externally).
- Must be a self starter and possess good time-management abilities.
- Balance team and individual responsibilities; contribute to building a positive team spirit.
- Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; Look for ways to improve and promote quality.

- Ability to read and write for proof reading and editing purposes.
- High-level proficiency in MS Office suite.
- Proficiency in internet research activities.
- Familiarity with case and document management software.
- Good understanding of policies and procedures of law.
- Ability to transcribe correspondence and reports, legal documents.
- Ability to operate computer, scanner, photocopier, and telephone.
- Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.

Salary Range:
$62,000-$67,000/Annually
