Job Description

The Office of the Second Judicial District Attorney improves the quality of life of the citizens of Bernalillo County by reducing crime through thoughtful enforcement of the law and the development of a criminal justice system.  The Office is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer and is seeking applicants for a Prosecution Specialist position with the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  This position requires extensive knowledge of the criminal justice system and the District Attorney’s Case Management  System  (CMS),  knowledge  of  general  office procedures  and  equipment;  substantial analytical research and writing skills, excellent judgment and organizational skills. This position will conduct screenings on criminal backgrounds of individuals arrested statewide and charged with criminal offenses. The employee in this position will be required to work weekends, some holidays and when the office and/or courts are closed due to inclement weather. This position typically involves early morning work with the day completing mid afternoon. Selected candidate's work schedule will include one weekend day. An example work week would be Tuesday through Saturday dependant on the office needs. The ideal candidate has enthusiasm, is detail oriented and is a team player. Candidate will be responsible for completing a full background investigation report using state and federal criminal justice databases; Access national criminal history using the NCIC database following all federal and state protocols; Communicates with local jails and courts as needed; Participates and provides input during meetings with office staff and supervisors; Determines and verifies actual identities of defendants with pending cases being prosecuted by the Second Judicial District Attorney's Office; Compiles and reports statistical data; Participates and attends conferences, training and community outreach or educational programs related to court programs; All other duties as assigned. 
 
Requirements: Associates degree in criminal justice, paralegal studies or other related field and two (2) years work experience and/or education in a related field; or at least four years of work experience and/or education in a related field. 

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or paralegal studies, plus two (2) years work experience or education in a related field; holds and maintains license requirements. 
 
Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment. Some physical effort and travel may be required.
