Duties The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.
- Distribute and balance the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization, assure timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assure that each employee has enough work to keep busy;
- Keep in touch with the status and progress of work, and make day- to- day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise, such as backlogs which cannot be disposed of promptly;
- Estimate and report on expected time of completion of work, and maintain records of work accomplishments and time expended and prepare production reports as requested;
- Amend or reject work not meeting established standards, refer to supervisor questions or matters not covered by standards and problems in meeting performance standards;
- Performs less complicated tax closing procedures using systems such as Integrated Data Retrieval System (IDRS), Integrated Automation Technologies (IAT), Report Generation Software (RGS), Enterprise Case Management (ECM), and other automated applications to close cases and/or control bases. Reviews taxpayer returns, supporting documents, and account information to identify missing, incomplete, or inaccurate data; researches routine account discrepancies; updates taxpayer records; and makes less complicated tax adjustments in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.

- Probationary Period - A person who is required to go through a probationary period and then is transferred, promoted, demoted, or reassigned before he or she completes such period is required to complete the remainder of the probationary period in the new position.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-06: To be eligible for this position, you must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Applying tax examination workload procedures and technical duties to review and resolve taxpayer account issues. Providing authoritative guidance to employees, including assistance with complex or unusual cases to ensure compliance and to identify, correct, and prevent errors in completed work.
- Utilizing organizational terminology, quality assurance principles, and reporting data to coordinate workflow, monitor production, and resolve operational problems, including identifying trends, errors, and workflow issues and ensuring adherence to established procedures.
- Applying administrative policies, procedures, and support functions to assist the supervisor in managing day-to-day operations, support performance monitoring, and performing in an acting supervisory capacity when necessary.
- Managing the end-to-end workflow within the function processes and systems to evaluate employee performance and skill levels, assign work appropriately, and maintain balanced workloads.

- TIME AFTER COMPETITIVE APPOINTMENT (TACA): Current civilian employees must have completed at least 90 days of federal civilian service since their latest non-temporary appointment from a competitive referral certificate, known as time after competitive appointment. - TIME IN GRADE (TIG): For positions above the GS-05,applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year (52 weeks) at the next lower grade level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the grade you are applying for. For positions at the GS-5, you cannot advance to the GS-05 if you have held a GS-02 in the past 52 weeks. There is no TIG restriction for GS-02, 03, or 04 positions.
