Job Summary

Lamar University, in partnership with Carrier & Allison Law Group, is hiring students through the Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program. This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on office and administrative experience in a professional law firm setting. Student Assistants will support attorneys and staff with clerical duties, client service, and daily operations while developing transferable skills for future careers.

Essential Job Functions

What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities

  • Greet clients and visitors in a professional and courteous manner
  • Answer phones, take messages, and route calls appropriately
  • Assist with filing, scanning, copying, and organizing legal documents
  • Prepare and distribute routine correspondence and mail
  • Perform data entry and maintain case-related records as directed
  • Support attorneys and staff with daily office operations
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive legal information
  • Complete other clerical tasks as assigned

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

  • Must be a current Lamar University student enrolled at least half-time (6+ credit hours)
  • Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study 
  • Strong professionalism, dependability, and punctuality
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
Previous office or clerical experience
Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Interest in legal studies or law (not required but helpful)

Minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher
