Overall Function:

 

Perform a variety of legal tasks under the supervision of an attorney. Responsible for duties that help ensure the smooth and efficient operation of legal practices through investigations and general case preparations with client communication and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Coordinates the initial client intake operation and appropriate supportive services and verifies all client information is accurate.
  • Assists Attorney in case preparation and follow-up, including fact-finding documentation and advocacy.
  • Aids in general legal education, community awareness of legal services and dissemination of materials.
  • Assist in the preparation for trials and hearings by organizing all necessary documentation.
  • Creates and edits those documents which are necessary for successfully completing assignments, primarily responsible for the overall accuracy of the document and initiation of related processes, procedures, and documents.
  • Accompany Attorney to out of office client visits, as necessary.
  • Prepares documents for guardianship petition, including background checks and communication with family and other individuals involved in the petition.
  • Coordinates the day-to-day outreach activities of the Legal Services Program by handling administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, managing calendars, and managing correspondence.
  • Responsible for communicating with Attorneys before, during, and after hearings, preparing relevant documentation for hearings as all final documentation following the conclusion of all hearings.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Answers telephone and covers front desk when needed.
  • Adheres to all policies, laws, regulations and codes of ethics and confidentiality as outlined by federal and state laws, and agency policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university or Certificate of Completion from an accredited paralegal program with 2 years' related experience.
  • Notary commission a plus or will be appointed.
  • Strong understanding of legal procedures, terminology, and court systems functions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local, state, and federal law and the legal process.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legal research techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must successfully obtain Criminal History Clearance from the PA State Police, Child Abuse Clearance from the PA Department of Human Services and FBI Fingerprint Clearance.
  • Must not be excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid, or any other federal health care program
  • Ability to transport oneself as program needs dictate.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time during the workday.
  • Ability to maintain effective and appropriate communications with clients, court officials and attorneys.
