The Boulder County Coroner's Office is offering multiple unpaid internships to fill the Coroner's Office Intern Spring 2026 - Medicolegal Investigations and Family AssistanceCollegiate interns will have to follow any expectations set by their school if they are completing the internship for credit. Non-collegiate opportunities will also be available on a case-by-case basis.

Our internship offers a rigorous experiential learning program designed to build knowledge and skills for persons interested in pursuing medicolegal death investigation, or a career in advocacy for vulnerable populations.

Both collegiate and non-collegiate individuals must be able to commit to 12-20 hours per week, during the term.

This internship is not a paid or benefited position. The internship dates are January 12 to April 24, 2026. This position will work 12-20 hours per week, Monday - Friday 7:00am – 8:00pm, depending on scheduling needs. This position will work out of 5610 Flatiron Parkway, Boulder, Colorado. 

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

Hiring Salary RangeUnpaid Internship

Tentative Hiring Timeline:

  • Phone Screening: Week of November 17th
  • First Round Interviews: Week of December 1st
  • Reference Check: Week of December 1st

Examples of Duties

  1. Medicolegal Interns will rotate through each division of the office to include investigations, pathology, family assistance and administration, but will focus on forensic investigations and postmortem examinations
  2. Participants may be exposed to environmental & biological hazards during the internship
  3. Each participant will be required to create and present a PowerPoint presentation on a chosen topic of interest near the end of the internship
  4. Performs related work, as required

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of current college enrollment* or college graduation from a nationally accredited college or university.

  • If currently enrolled, a minimum GPA of 3.0 pursuing a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in an applicable field of study such as health or human science, forensic science, or criminal justice

BACKGROUND CHECK & FINGERPRINTING:

  • Passing a background check that requires fingerprinting is required

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • To confirm participation, offered candidates must complete an internship agreement

  • How the internship might help you achieve your goals
  • How you anticipate your internship would benefit our office
  • Your availability (which days of the week you are available and when you would be available to start an internship)
  • Your college information including the name of your college or university, your year in college, your current GPA, the degree you are pursuing, and your anticipated graduation date
  • A resume is optional, but recommended

Supplemental Information

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Current college enrollment or college graduation from a nationally accredited institution of higher education, 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Field of study such as health or human science, forensic science, or criminal justice
