Job Description

Take on this Legal Assistant Supervisor role with the Unemployment Compensation (UC) Board of Review’s Pittsburgh Referee Office. Share your skills and become a key part of the final level of appellate review for UC claims with us!

As a Legal Assistant Supervisor, you will plan, organize, and supervise a team of legal and clerical assistants who support the UC Referee staff of our Western sector in processing UC appeals. This includes monitoring the flow of work, allocating work to ensure that deadlines are met and priority items are accomplished, and completing productivity reports. Your responsibilities will involve evaluating employee performance, coordinating with other Western sector management personnel to identify and meet staff training needs, and providing technical guidance on policies and procedures to maintain efficient operations and coordinate the implementation of changes with staff. You will also be expected to participate in your team’s work reviewing and processing legal documents, organizing case files, scheduling hearings, transcribing decisions, public contact work, and general office work.


Our team will rely on you to exercise significant independent judgment to accomplish assigned duties, seeking assistance or guidance from manager when necessary, and assist the Program Manager in the overall handling of day-to-day operations in the office. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work Hours are negotiable.
  • Work Location: You will work at the Western Sector office that is closest to your home. Possible work locations are available in Erie, Westmoreland, Cambria (Johnstown location), Venango, Mercer, and Allegheny counties.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days per week upon successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office that is closest to your home.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Legal Assistant 2; or
  • Five years of responsible clerical, investigative or enforcement work including two years of legal clerical experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:
