Job Description


Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for planning, developing, providing, controlling, and evaluating the Department of Justice program for continuing legal training and education for both attorneys and support staff in the United States Attorney's Offices (USAOs), Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys and the Office of the U.S. Attorneys (EOUSA), and other components of the Department of Justice. Typical work assignments will include:

  • Advising management on the proper and effective utilization of all financial resources.
  • Cross-checking the accuracy and consistency of budget and program data in related budgetary plans, schedules, and reports.
  • Ensuring transactions are recorded timely, accurately, and completely in the financial management system.
  • Comparing figures in current estimates of funding needs by budget category or object class with prior year expenditures and brings significant variations to the attention of the supervisor.

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

  • You must submit a transcript or proof of degree/certificate.
  • Recent Graduates serve a trial period for the entire duration of their excepted service appointment.

Qualifications

To be eligible for a recent graduate appointment, ALL of the following requirements must be met:

  • Recent Graduates must have obtained a qualifying associates, bachelors, master's, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying accredited educational institution within the previous 2 years unless military service interfered with a veteran's eligibility to apply during that two year time frame. Veterans meeting the above exclusion may apply within 2 years of discharge or 6 years from the date of receipt of the degree whichever comes first.   • Recent graduates must be United States citizens or owe permanent allegiance to the United States. (Currently, natives of American Samoa, Swains Island and certain inhabitants of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are the only groups that owe permanent allegiance to the United States.)
  • You must successfully complete a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • All recent graduates are required to sign a Pathways Recent Graduate Participant Agreement.
  • Recent Graduates serve a trial period for the entire duration of their excepted service appointment.
Qualification requirements as outlined below:

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the general experience requirement and education or a combination of both general experience and education as explained below.

General Experience: Applicants must have at least 3 years of general experience, 1 year of which is equivalent to at least GS-4 in Federal service that demonstrates the ability to analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions; plan and organize work; and communicate effectively orally and in writing.

OR

Education: Four full years of post-high school education in any field leading to a bachelor's degree, in an accredited college or university.

OR

Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100 percent. To combine education and experience, determine the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level. Then determine the education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. Finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR TRANSCRIPT TO VERIFY YOUR EDUCATION.

Education

All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at an institution that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Foreign Education Note: You may use foreign education to meet qualification requirements if you send a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency in with your transcript.
