
Burr & Forman LLP has an immediate opening in our Jacksonville, FL office for an experienced, full-time Legal Support Assistant. Secretarial/administrative experience in consumer bankruptcy is required. This role involves performing complex administrative tasks that require knowledge of legal terminology and processes, including preparing and filing legal documents, managing calendars, and coordinating logistics for meetings. The ideal candidate should possess strong organizational and communication skills, with at least two years of experience in a legal setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are essential. This position offers an opportunity to contribute significantly to the legal team while managing a variety of responsibilities.
KEY CONTRIBUTIONS
- Perform complex administrative duties requiring knowledge of legal terminology and legal processes
- Prepare, edit, and/or draft correspondence, reports, pleadings, and legal documents
- Learn and apply formatting requirements specific to various courts for pleadings
- File briefs, pleadings, and other filings in bankruptcy court and state/federal court
- Plan and schedule conferences, depositions, and/or meetings
- Maintain calendars including court deadlines and appearances
- Plan and prepare travel arrangements
- Enter billable time and edit time and pre-bills as needed
- Process expense reimbursements
- Answer incoming calls; prepare documents for shipment; and distribute mail
- Open and maintain client files, cases and organizational documents
- Respond to inquiries for information
- Other responsibilities as needed
THE ESSENTIALS
- At least two years of experience as a legal secretary/assistant in a law firm or corporate legal department environment; experience in consumer bankruptcy is required and state court experience is a plus
- Knowledge of electronic filing procedures
- Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Knowledge of district, state and federal court and electronic filing procedures
- Proficient with Microsoft Word and ability to type 50 wpm
- Highly organized, detail-orientated, proactive with a desire to take ownership
- Balance competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment, exercising patience and professionalism during stressful situations.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
