Position
SAS has an opening for an In-House Counsel who provides high quality operations and business-oriented legal advice to internal and external company business partners, including contract review, asset transactions and litigation oversight. Oversight of corporate records and real estate. Assists in operational legal affairs of the company.
Job Responsibilities
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Advises company personnel on matters relating to such as contract review and drafting, insurance placement and claims management, regulatory assistance, litigation management, real estate and similar acquisitions.
- Assists the General Counsel with various projects and ongoing issues.
- Advises operational teams on policy issues and regulations as they concern operational compliance. Collaborates with technical teams to assist in their operational efforts.
- Compliance with corporate directives and governing documents.
- Represents the business unit in various meeting and committees as required. Engages and directs outside counsel when necessary.

Education & Experience Requirements
- Minimum of a Juris Doctorate and five years of In-House Counsel experience or in a private practice.
- Experience in Employment Law
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels.
- Pragmatic approach to legal advice, with emphasis on ensuring ethical, legal, and safe operations and contracting practices.
- Experience advising on and negotiating onshore U.S. exploration and production activities and agreements.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a stationary position.
- Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer, and prepare and analyze projects.
- Constantly be able to operate a computer.
- Must be able to lift 20lbs.
- Willing to travel by car and plane.
