Job Description

As a Tax Controversy Services (TCS) Associate Attorney, you will represent a wide range of small and mid-size companies defending their rights against government (state and federal) challenges. This role is a unique opportunity to leverage and enhance your litigation skills in a client-centric environment, often requiring you to engage and work with C-level executives and other senior-level professionals. You will learn a tremendous amount concerning numerous industries and business operations across the country

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate evidence, develop realistic evaluations of cases, and position our clients to ensure the best opportunity for success

  • Develop and implement strategies to best represent clients in federal and/or state examinations

  • Gather, review, and analyze required and necessary documentation in response to requests from federal and/or state government

  • Draft and prepare information for presentation to the federal and/or state government

  • Prepare witnesses and participate in client interviews with the federal and/or state government

  • Prepare and present client cases before federal and/or state government

  • Conduct legal research and draft memorandum and other documents to be submitted to the federal and/or state government

  • Serve as the main point of contact between clients and the federal and/or state government and provide exceptional client service

  • Manage and maintain client relationships and collaboratively work with multi-disciplinary teams in a constructive fashion to drive results

Qualifications

  • JD or equivalent, and active license to practice law in any state

  • Preferred 2 years of experience as an attorney with the ability to maintain own docket

  • Litigation experience is preferred including experience in depositions and trial preparation/participation

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Highly professional, competitive, and collaborative

  • Strong aptitude, highly motivated, and career minded

  • High sense of urgency with the ability to meet deadlines and changing priorities

  • Receptiveness to performance feedback within a team environment is essential

  • Available to travel 15-25% within the United States

  • Candidate must reside or relocate to Houston, TX
