Job Purpose:
The Legal Intern at Guidon Design plays a key role in supporting the General Counsel, gaining hands-on experience in a collaborative and fast-paced corporate environment. This position offers an opportunity for the Legal Intern to contribute to a rapidly growing architecture and engineering firm with the opportunity to interact with a variety of individuals internal and external to the Company. This experience will involve conducting detailed legal research, drafting and reviewing contracts, agreements, and other legal documents, specifically federal and construction contracts, and assisting with a variety of legal projects. Under the supervision of the General Counsel, the Legal Intern will also contribute to ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, participating in internal meetings, and supporting Guidon’s General Counsel with day-to-day tasks and special projects. This role provides valuable exposure to the diverse legal challenges faced by In-House Counsel.

At Guidon Design, we believe that mentorship matters. The General Counsel will actively work with the Legal Intern to take them to State and Local Bar Association events and other networking or conference events as they arise.

Hours & Expectations:
  • The Legal Intern will be expected to work between 14-20 hours per week in-person at Guidon’s office in downtown Indianapolis. The hours worked are flexible to accommodate law school classes but must be between the hours of 8:30-5:00 pm. There is very limited ability to work remotely.
  • The position will be filled in January or February 2025 with the expectation that the Legal Intern will continue through August 2025.
Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a J.D. Program
  • Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and legal research tools (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw).
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Coursework or experience in corporate law, construction law, employment law, or contracts is preferred.
  • A 2L is preferred but consideration to a 1L with prior work experience will be given.
Skills/Qualities:
  • Legal Research & Writing: Strong ability to conduct thorough legal research and analyze case law, statutes, and regulations. Proficiency in drafting clear and concise legal documents, including memos and correspondence.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in document preparation case file management, and research tasks.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate legal concepts and information to internal teams and external parties.
  • Time Management: Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Problem-Solving: Analytical thinking and creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to approach complex legal issues with a practical, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with legal research databases (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw) and standard office software (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace).
  • Confidentiality & Integrity: Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism, maintaining the highest ethical standards.
  • Previous Experience: While not required, prior internships or experience in a legal or corporate environment is a plus.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment, collaborating with General Counsel and other internal departments while also being able to take initiative when working independently.
Responsibilities:
  • Legal Research: Conduct in-depth legal research on various topics, including regulations, case law, and legal precedents relevant to ongoing projects.
  • Document Drafting: Assist in drafting and reviewing legal documents such as contracts, agreements, briefs, memos, and correspondence.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze and summarize data for legal cases, contracts, or ongoing matters.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Support the legal team in ensuring company practices are compliant with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Meeting Support: Participate in internal strategy discussions and brainstorming sessions.
  • Administrative Assistance: Perform general administrative duties such as scheduling, document processing, and maintaining legal databases.
  • Special Projects: Collaborate on special legal projects as assigned, including assisting in policy reviews, corporate governance matters, and internal audits.
  • Communications: Handle communications with external parties such as clients, witnesses, or vendors under the guidance of the supervising attorney.
