Job Description

Position Description

This is a non-civil service position with the Chancery Court Clerk & Master’s Office. The position title is Deputy Clerk and Master 1/Calendar Clerk. The position serves as the main liaison between the Clerk & Master’s Office and the Chancellor, and is responsible for monitoring and managing case progress and disposition.

Typical Duties

  • Communicate verbally and in writing with attorneys and pro se litigants regarding case status.
  • Prepare and maintain case reports for the Chancellor.
  • Draft case dismissal and case monitoring orders for the Chancellor.
  • Review and process case filings into case management system.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned with accuracy.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
 
 
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
 
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Paralegal certificate or other legal training or experience, especially legal writing
  • Interest in a career in the legal profession
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and procedure
  • Bilingual
