Job Description

Examples of Duties

This recruitment is being established to obtain a current eligible list for both full time and Extra-Help vacancies. Extra-Help are not entitled to county benefits and are limited to a maximum of 25 hours per week. Extra-Help pay is up to $23.61 per hour.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist in providing comprehensive services and assistance to victims of all types of crime.
     
  • Assist with indemnification claims to assure victims receive local benefits and state compensation.
     
  • Provide local verification, and claims evaluation for repayment of loss or damage to victims to the State Board of Control.
     
  • Refer victims and members of their families to public and private agencies for assistance.
     
  • Maintain records, statistical data and files relevant to assigned work.
     
  • Participate in community outreach efforts to publicize the services of the program.
     
  • Assist volunteers performing services for the Victim/Witness Program.
     
  • Interview clients and assist in the interview process.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:
One (1) year of experience in a criminal justice, social service or public contact setting, preferably with experience in legal processes.

Education:
Completion of 60 units of college with a major in criminology, sociology or a related field. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Essential Functions

  • Operate a personal computer and other office equipment.
     
  • Communicate effectively with others in person and over the telephone.
     
  • Analyze data, interpret directions, procedures and regulations, and develop appropriate responses.
     
  • Perform job duties under stressful conditions.
     
  • Maintain confidential information in accordance with legal standards and/or County regulations.
     
  • Frequent use of depth perception, peripheral vision and color perception.
     
  • Frequently lift, carry, reach, push, pull, twist and manipulate large and small objects.
     
  • Frequent use of hand-eye coordination.
     
  • Normal dexterity, frequent holding and grasping.
     
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 40 pounds.

  • Regular attendance is an essential function.

Knowledge of:
  • Office procedures, record management practices.
     
  • Codes, regulations, and procedures related to the criminal justice process.
     
  • Various agencies, organizations or individuals which provide assistance to victims of crime.
     
  • Volunteer programs.
     
  • Supervision and training techniques.
     
  • Principles of interviewing
     
  • Problem solving methodology.
Ability to:
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
     
  • Deal effectively and tactfully with the public, law enforcement and Criminal Justice System.
     
  • Interpret and apply laws, rules and regulations.
     
  • Analyze situations and make sound decisions.
     
  • Makes arithmetical calculations.
     
  • Maintains statistical information and complex records.

Salary
  • $49,108.80 - $59,737.60/year
