- About the Position
Performs intermediate skilled administrative support work supporting the tax collections division, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Tax Collector.
- Job Duties
- Performs title research for preparation of necessary foreclosures, and to obtain information for existing mortgages.
- Locates contact information and prepares correspondence to send to delinquent taxpayers.
- Reviews, verifies, and records all bankruptcies on real and personal property and/or business personal property; maintains files and tracks payments; prepares proof of claim and files with the appropriate bankruptcy court.
- Prepares and processes necessary paperwork associated with garnishments, attachment of bank accounts and rents and foreclosures of real estate.
- Arranges payment schedules for delinquent taxpayers.
- Prepares requests for execution; forwards executions to Clerk of Court's and Sheriff's offices.
- Assists customers with payments, research, etc.
- Performs other assigned duties.
- Position Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of legal office practices, procedures, legal drafting, research, and secretarial techniques.
- Thorough knowledge of departmental functions, organization, and policies.
- General knowledge of the functions and policies of the courts, state, and federal agencies.
- Thorough knowledge of legal terminology, forms, and spellings.
- Ability to lay out and type complex forms and tables.
- Ability to perform basic legal research and to coordinate complex legal requests from various government departments and agencies.
- Ability to organize data, gather information, prepare reports, and maintain records.
- Ability to type, take and transcribe dictation at a reasonable rate of speed.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with associates and the public.
- Education, Experience and Supplemental Information
- Associate degree or equivalent.
- Three to five (3-5) years of experience in a related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- NC Tax Collector's Association Certification within two years of hire.
- Paralegal training.
- Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
- $55,277/year
