Judicial Staff Attorney

We’re looking for a sharp, driven legal mind to join our team as a Judicial Staff Attorney to the District Court, where you’ll work directly with District Judges on legal matters facing our courts today.

Step into a pivotal role within the judicial system, where your legal expertise will directly support the decision-making process of a District Judge. This management-level position offers a unique opportunity to perform professional legal duties ranging from routine to complex. You’ll conduct in-depth legal research, analyze case law, statutes, and treatises, and deliver well-reasoned, written recommendations on matters before the Court.

As a trusted legal advisor, you will exercise substantial independent judgment and initiative in shaping the Court’s understanding of key legal issues. The role offers both intellectual challenge and the chance to influence the fair and efficient administration of justice. Work is primarily performed in a professional office and courtroom environment, providing close access to the inner workings of judicial decision-making.

What You Would Do:

Your work will be dynamic, meaningful, and central to the judicial process. Expect to:

  • Research complex legal issues and prepare detailed memos that help shape court decisions.
  • Draft and edit legal opinions, orders, and judgments with precision and purpose.
  • Advise District Judges on legal strategy and interpretation across civil and criminal matters.
  • Attend court proceedings, take detailed notes, and support the Judge through pre-trial conferences, motion hearings, and trials.
  • Review and analyze evidence and court records to provide succinct legal insight.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and public agencies to manage court scheduling and procedural flow.
  • Stay current on legal developments, including statutes, case law, and procedural rules—your insights will help the Court stay sharp and informed.

Do You Have What It Takes?

  • A Juris Doctor from an American Bar Association accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction, with a current good standing.
  • Strong command of legal research techniques (Westlaw proficiency preferred).
  • A mastery of legal writing, clear logic, and persuasive communication.
  • An eye for detail with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence in public service.
