The Judicial Council of California is accepting applications for a Media Producer position for the Center for Judicial Education and Research in the Judicial Branch Education office.
The Media Producer creates videos and web-based education by collaborating with content developers to design and produce effective technology based educational tools such as videos, online courses, and videoconferences for delivery to California judges and judicial branch managers and staff. This position also provides analysis on proposed approaches for the use of video to achieve statewide education and communications objectives for judicial branch audiences.
Responsibilities include capturing and producing digital assets essential for the educational products, including but not limited to recorded interviews, subject matter expert delivered content, video vignettes that demonstrate educational concepts, and both still and animated graphics. The position also directs live webcasts for the Supreme Court and Judicial Council programs, edits video content, and prepares media for online and physical distribution channels. Additionally, the media producer directs and oversees staff during studio and field video productions.
The Judicial Council
The Judicial Council of California is the policy setting body for the state court system and has constitutionally conferred statewide rule-making authority. This authority includes developing, advocating for, and allocating the judicial branch budget. A majority of Council members are California state justices and judges; however, the Council also includes lawyers, legislators, and court administrators.
By enhancing its role as a leadership, knowledge, and service resource for the judicial branch, the Judicial Council’s staff organization seeks to continue to evolve as one of California’s most dynamic public service entities, focused on improving access to justice for all Californians by innovating and responding to the changing needs of the courts and the public. As a government body charged with improving the statewide administration of justice, the Judicial Council has multiple offices with diverse responsibilities relating to court policy and operations. The Judicial Council offers hybrid work arrangements for many positions. The successful candidate will be expected to work in person on Wednesdays at the Judicial Council’s San Francisco office and reside in the areas surrounding this location. Beginning January 2025, employees will work in the office at least two days per week.
- Collaborate and consult with others to design visual communication products for judicial branch education and information purposes.
- Direct content acquisition for studio, field, and remote audio/video recordings, and livestreamed events
- Capture high-quality video content
- Conduct single-camera field interviews independently
- Edit video & audio based on script requirements, learning or communication objectives, as well as aesthetic considerations using provided or approved software and tools.
- Design, create, and/or adapt videographics, text, and animations to contribute to effective delivery of learning or communication objectives, as well as aesthetic considerations.
- Implement scheduling and logistics of locations and crew for acquisition of the visual/audio content
Other Duties and Responsibilities:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in media arts, television production, film production or directly related field; two (2) years of video production experience including use of video editing and graphics production software. An additional four years of professional experience as noted above may substitute for the bachelor’s degree. Or, additional directly related experience and/or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to perform all positions related to studio and field video production work. (including but not limited to directing, technical directing, grip, set design, lighting, audio, camera, teleprompter, HD recording, digital editing, storyboarding, creating graphics)
- Proficient with Adobe Premiere Pro
- Experience with Microsoft 365
- Experience with Articulate 360
