Job Description

Title: Legal Internship

Location: North Sioux City, SD

Reports to: Vice President of Legal and Compliance

Time Frame: May 19, 2025, through August 15, 2025

Required Education/Experience: The Legal Intern must be currently enrolled in a Juris Doctorate (JD) program. 1L or 2L students may apply.  

Job Description: The Legal Intern will be a member of the Company’s legal department and will support the in-house legal team with day-to-day responsibilities and by assisting in advancing legal projects and initiatives. The Legal Intern will report to the General Counsel and will work under the guidance of each of the members of the in-house legal team. The Legal Intern will have the opportunity to be exposed to a wide array of legal matters while learning about the practical dimension of practicing law in-house. The Legal Internship is a paid full-time seasonal position starting in mid-May and ending in mid-August. 

Requirements: 

  • Strong attention to detail, strong legal research and analytical skills, and ability to learn new concepts quickly  
  • High degree of initiative, organization and prioritization in approach to professional responsibilities
  • Ability to understand business sensitivities and confidentiality, and to manage professional responsibilities with integrity and discretion
  • Positive and professional attitude, including dependability, timeliness, and the personal aptitude to manage multiple, concurrent responsibilities with sound judgment and diplomacy
  • Strong collaboration skills, and ability to work and communicate effectively with members of the legal department, as well as with other departments and levels of the Company as needed.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Review and evaluate, and assist in the revising and drafting of, agreements, written policies and other documents based on corporate guidelines and input from members of the legal department
  • Research and analyze statutes, codes, judicial decisions, legal articles, and other materials in various jurisdictions and on a variety of legal topics that are applicable to the Company, including legal research on employment and labor issues, data security and privacy issues, and commercial transaction and compliance issues. 
  • Identify, research, and evaluate legal issues relevant to the Company, including potential risks involved with specific contract terms, legislative changes that affect the Company, and inquiries regarding legal matters that pertain to legal department initiatives
  • Assist in the development and communication of memos, self-help materials and other guidance for the Company
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of the in-house legal team’s internal knowledge databases and other department records, systems, processes and procedures to support legal department initiatives and administration
  • Assigned projects and day-to-day responsibilities will depend on the needs of legal department. Assume other duties as may arise from time to time in support of the efforts of the legal department and the Company
