Job Description

Location: Kansas City, MO. This is an in-office position based at our Kansas City, just south of downtown, near Crown Center. 

Eligible Candidates: Open to applicants in Illinois, Missouri and Kansas

Job Summary: Brown & Crouppen is seeking a Pre-Litigation Attorney to join our Plaintiff Personal Injury Practice. Outstanding client service skills are required in this role. The attorney will work closely with a dedicated support team consisting of a pre-litigation paralegal, medical paralegal, legal assistant, and settlement paralegal to ensure efficient case management and optimal client outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Manage a caseload of approximately 150 active personal injury cases
  • Serve as the primary legal contact for clients, ensuring they are informed, supported, and confident in their case’s progress
  • Evaluate cases to assess liability, damages, and potential settlement value
  • Oversee medical treatment progress to ensure injuries and damages are properly documented for settlement negotiations
  • Provide guidance and reassurance to clients throughout the legal process, addressing their concerns promptly
  • Draft strong, well-supported demand letters that highlight liability, medical damages, and the full impact of injuries
  • Negotiate with insurance adjusters to achieve optimal settlements on behalf of clients
  • Handle insurance coverage disputes and policy limit demands when applicable
  • Evaluate settlement offers and advise clients on whether to accept, counter, or escalate a claim
  • Collaborate with senior litigation attorneys on cases requiring transition to litigation
  • Oversee lien resolution and subrogation issues to maximize client recoveries

Skills and Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience handling motor vehicle accident cases in a pre-litigation setting
  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois and Missouri (Required)
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the State Bar
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to maximize settlements for clients
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical abilities
  • Outstanding client service skills with the ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly
  • Experience working with medical providers and insurance adjusters
  • Ability to manage a high caseload efficiently while maintaining attention to detail
