The Gloucester County Commonwealth Attorney's Office is seeking an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney I 
to complete their Team.

Under general supervision, the Assistant Commonwealth Attorney I performs professional work representing the Commonwealth in court. Prepares and prosecutes cases primarily in all local trial courts. Generally, works independently with supervision as needed. Work consists of case law research, preparation of legal briefs and motions, interviewing and preparing witnesses, and providing legal advice and expertise to law enforcement and other agencies during investigations. Work involves considerable public contact. Employee must exercise independent judgment, initiative, tact and courtesy in various phases of work. 


Reports to the Commonwealth’s Attorney.

Job Highlights

  • Serves as prosecutor for the Commonwealth.  
  • Performs legal research to support cases being prosecuted; prepares legal briefs and opinions.  
  • Establishes and maintains case files and other documentation to include any necessary grant related documentation that may fund and / or supplement this position. 
  • Prepares legal briefs and motions.  
  • Provides advice and guidance to law enforcement and other agencies. 
  • Responds to inquiries from members of the community. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains all policies and procedures set forth by the Commonwealth’s Attorney including, but not limited to, a Statement of Appointment, Policy of Confidentiality and Social Media Policy.

Qualifications

  • Possess a Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited school of law.
  • Have a minimum of six months to three (3) years of legal experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
