Under limited supervision, serve as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) and Designated School Official (DSO). Manage education abroad responsibilities while educating international students, exchange visitors, scholars, faculty, staff, and academic units on federal immigration regulations as they apply to higher education.



Responsibilities
  • Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) for F-1 student visa program, Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for J-1exchange visitor program, and Training Program Liaison (TPL) for J-1 alien physicians sponsored by the Educational 
  • Commission on Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
  • Assists with administering the institution’s J-1 Exchange Visitor Program to include preparing visa applications for, as well as engage in direct advising of international students (undergraduate, graduate, and professional) and scholars with limited supervision, to include individuals in F-1 visas. Assist with processing J-1 ECFMG residents/fellows, B-1 
  • Observers/Visitors and may require assisting H-1B Temporary Workers.
  • Develops and conducts pre-departure orientations on health, safety, and cultural awareness, as well as re-entry workshops. Assists with the development of an emergency response protocol and crisis response for global incidents.
  • Provides coordination of visits for incoming international students and scholars as a part of University exchange programs or agreements.
  • Assists with the development of an emergency response protocol and crisis response for global incidents.
  • Monitors world events, health and safety information, and security alerts and communicates the potential impacts on education abroad programs and University travelers to the crisis response team and International Oversight Committee.
  • Monitors changes in international travel guidelines and potential risks affecting the safety and welfare of students, residents, faculty, and staff traveling abroad.
  • Initiates and maintains a repository of international memorandums of understanding (MOU’s) to provide faculty and staff with information regarding international collaborations.
  • Develops contacts and maintains relationships with overseas partner institutions, affiliate providers, and other program sponsors.
  • Manage data within Terra Dotta system to ensure integrity of data and timely reporting to U.S. Department of Homeland 
  • Security and Department of State.
  • Develop and maintain OIS policies and procedures related to immigration advising and processing.
  • Maintains knowledge of U.S. immigration regulations.
  • Work with campus units/organizations to design and manage programs that promote international education and cultural exchange for international students and scholars to include International Education Week activities.
  • Plan, develop and conduct workshops to educate on current U.S. immigration regulations and compliance.
  • Develop, disseminate, and assess surveys for international students and scholars, along with department liaisons, to determine needs and satisfaction with OIS services.
  • Assist with maintaining OIS website with improved content.
  • Assist with designing and maintaining OIS newsletters sent to international visitors and department contacts.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Commitment to and understanding of the unique needs associated with working in an international services office within an academic environment. 
  • Proficiency in planning, organizing, assessing and delivering a wide variety of events for a range of students. 
  • Ability to research and analyze information, including government documents and regulations, to solve problems. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong writing ability, presentation skills, and the ability to communicate effectively to non-native speakers of English. 
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to resolve complex issues. 
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Five (5) years experience working with international students, scholars and faculty. Proficiency in SEVIS
