Base Salary Range: $60,000-$70,000

The teams in X’s Safety department work to safeguard the user’s voice in balance with manageable risk through policy enforcement that promotes trust in X. Areas of focus include privacy and intellectual property rights, government and law enforcement requests, Copyright/DMCA, Trademark, and Counterfeit policies, safety, and authenticity. 

What You’ll Do: 

 Passionate about online speech, intellectual property, and user rights? As a Legal Policy Copyright Counterfeit Trademark Agent, you are at the forefront of these challenging issues, expertly managing policy enforcement, advocating for user safety, and maintaining trust in Twitter globally, and specifically focusing on the competencies of Copyright, Trademark, DMCA, and Counterfeit legal and safety matters.

As X continues to ideate new products, applications, and integrations for our users, advertisers, and content creators; the Legal Policy Copyright, Trademark, DMCA, and Counterfeit team is currently at the cusp of a new frontier when it comes to preserving IP, DMCA, Copyright, and Counterfeit legal matters on the platform. The reason for this is to maintain the integrity of the application, preserve the relationships we have with our advertisers, and promote safety and security for our daily users. This team is currently in the midst of building up the Counterfeit, Copyright, DMCA, and Trademark space at X, where opportunities for policy optimization/development, new workflow creation, and training are happening now, and something you will be a part of. 

You will process DMCA removal requests (allegations of copyright infringement), field incoming complaints using internal tools, and analyze data to decide upon the appropriate resolution. You may also be required to handle other legal removal requests from start to finish (Counterfeit and Trademark), including document intake, processing, and follow-up. A proactive attitude and exceptional attention to detail is absolutely essential, as is the ability to be both firm and fair. We're a passionate team of intensely motivated, detail-oriented folks, seeking the same to join us!

Of critical importance is an analytical mind, the ability to balance out both sides of the complaint, and the confidence to decide upon the right path for resolution. Legal training is not a prerequisite for this position, however a background in IP, Copyright, Counterfeit, or Trademark would be advantageous. 

The Legal Policy Copyright agent will also serve on an on-call rotation working closely with other members of Trust & Safety to provide timely responses to emergency requests from all over the world. 

Responsibilities:

  • Review Copyright, Trademark, DMCA, and Counterfeit issues via CRM and ticket systems.

  • Handle escalation requests from Partner managers and sales team regarding high prioritized live events from our various customers and advertisers.

  • Provide clear, patient, and helpful responses to time sensitive safety and legal requests.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, Product, Communications, and other Trust & Safety teams to improve user experience with policy related issues.

  • Be able to work on Counterfeit, Trademark, and Copyright policy development.

Who You Are:

  • You have experience in one of the four competencies: Copyright, Trademark, DMCA, and/or Counterfeit policy/legal matters.

  • You are an excellent communicator, and will maintain open, thorough, and regular communication with teammates and cross-functional teams.

  • You are comfortable working and teaching outside vendors and/or vendor agents on Trust and Safety policies.

  • You are a keen decision maker, self motivated, and a team player.

  • Capable of spotting anomalies or unusual/suspicious patterns in requests you handle.

  • You can live in a space of ambiguity, default to action, embody humility, and exemplify extreme ownership. 

  • You have a work hard, play hard mentality and approach to things, 

  • You exemplify a professional manner in your daily job duties, but enjoy having fun and are keen to a good dad joke and laugh.

Requirements 

  • You have experience in one of the four competencies: Copyright, Trademark, DMCA, and/or Counterfeit policy/legal matters 

  • Excellent verbal and oral communication skills with the ability to translate complex issues into simple, clear language.

  • This role may require weekend coverage (Saturday or Sunday) or an ability to flex schedules for highly prioritized Live Stream events.

Preferred qualifications

  • Knowledge of the technology and social media space sectors and relevant policy issues affecting online and offline communities like safety, abuse, and intellectual property use.

  • Experience working with one of the following: internet technologies, related policy and regulatory environments and challenges affecting the internet, free expression, online safety, and content moderation

  • Complete fluency in English and a second language (strong preference for Japanese, Korean, Arabic).
