Job Description:
The Knowledge Management Manager, Litigation (KM Manager) supports the development of the knowledge and innovation strategy and overall knowledge infrastructure for the Litigation Practice Group (Practice Group) and serves a necessary function for Practice Group attorneys to work more efficiently and effectively. This position works closely with the Director of Knowledge Management (Director) and Practice Group members to drive innovation, curate high value content, and play a vital role in the development of AI enhanced tools that support matter teams across all stages of litigation.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Organization and Dissemination of Knowledge
- Collaborate with the Director, other KM Managers, and IT to develop, test, and assess AI-powered platforms, custom AI tools, and other firm-wide KM resources
- Collaborate with Practice Group members to develop, test, and assess the utility and efficacy of Practice Group-specific KM resources that align with the Practice Group’s strategic priorities, including AI-powered platforms and tools
- Work with the Director and Practice Group members to coordinate and advertise rollouts of new AI-powered platforms and tools
- Promote awareness and utilization of the Practice Group’s full library of KM resources
- Proactively identify gaps in the Practice Group’s knowledge assets and develop new resources to address those needs
- Collaborate with lawyers to organize and integrate existing knowledge content to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and information both within and outside of the Practice Group
- Respond to Practice Group requests for KM resources and support
- Support the design, maintenance, and centralization of in-house KM resources, including the Federal District Court Case Hub, a searchable and regularly updated repository of information about the firm’s federal district court practice
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, KM Manager, and Practice Group
Management of Knowledge Management Resources
- Manage contractors engaged in testing of AI tools and substantive updates to KM resources
- Conduct regular reviews and audits of AI tools and other KM resources to ensure accuracy, currency, and relevance
- Consistently and effectively communicate the availability and location of the Practice Group’s AI tools and other KM resources
- Collaborate with the Senior Knowledge Operations Manager, the Director, and other KM Managers to gather, analyze, and present qualitative and quantitative feedback to inform decisions on KM strategy and improvements
- Develop and execute outreach plans to encourage substantive contributions to AI and KM resources
- Coordinate outreach to lawyers to contribute knowledge assets to internal KM libraries
- Develop and oversee taxonomy for stored knowledge assets
AI / Technology
- Pilot and assess new AI and technology use cases
- Help test and deploy technology to assist with analysis of litigation documents and large data stores, development of innovative litigation strategies, automation of document creation, assistance with legal research, and other tasks to support the Practice Group
Job Specifications:
- Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school
- At least three (3) years of legal experience, preferably in a large firm environment
- Experience developing AI agents, chatbots, or prompt-based systems using generative AI models (e.g., GPT-based systems) preferred
- Experience in employment litigation strongly preferred
- Admitted to practice law in good standing in a location where McDermott has an office
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word)
- Strong legal and regulatory research skills
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and prioritize responsibilities
- Ability to handle and maintain confidential information
- Ability to learn new concepts and skills quickly

Target Hiring Range $131,000 - $203,000
Please note that quoted salary ranges are not guarantees of what final salary offers may be. Base pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. Base pay is only one part of the Total Rewards that MWS provides to compensate and recognize our staff professionals for their work. Full time positions are eligible for a discretionary bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
