The Senior Counsel – Labor & Employment position, North America is responsible for providing practical legal advice and creative broad impact solutions on the broad spectrum of employment and labor law issues across Danaher’s North America operating companies (“OpCos”) and managing and driving strategy on litigation and other adversarial L&E matters. An essential component of the position is the development and implementation of process-oriented and scalable best practices.
This position is part of the Danaher Labor & Employment Legal team and will be located remotely in the U.S.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Provide practical and timely guidance and support to our US OpCos on the myriad federal, state, and local laws in the US that govern employment relationship and the workplace including those concerning discrimination, harassment, wage and hour, restrictive covenants, leaves of absence and accommodations, individual and group separations, “whistleblowing,” hiring practices, labor-relations in our unionized facilities and union-awareness in our non-union facilities, etc.
- Support and advise the Corporate HR Labor and Employee Relations Center of Excellence on HR-related investigations, including overseeing third party investigators, supporting internal OpCo and LER COE investigators and occasionally conducting complex investigations
- Manage and timely drive to completion other L&E related projects, including internal compliance reviews, act as US LE Legal subject matter expert on cross-functional products, etc.
- Design and implement turn-key Labor & Employment legal solutions to various L&E matters that embed best practice and legal compliance resulting in efficiencies and improved quality, which can be scaled across our OpCos of various sizes and complexities and/or to our North America LER COE.
- Manage employment-related adversarial matters including demand letters, charges filed with various federal and state government agencies (e.g., EEOC, DOL, NLRB, etc.), and single-plaintiff litigation, and class and collective actions; including developing strategy for the successful resolution of such matters, preparing and/or reviewing position statements or other documents provided in response to agency charges, preparing and/or reviewing responses to demand letters, overseeing outside counsel in litigation, developing settlement strategies and participating in mediation and other settlement-related activities, and ensuring that proactive legal advice is effectively and efficiently delivered in order to mitigate present and potential future risk and exposure.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- 8 – 11 years of experience as a Labor & Employment attorney, including work at a major law firm
- Expert substantive knowledge of major US employment and labor laws and regulations (expertise in particularly California and Canada are a plus)
- Significant experience in HR-related investigations and management of investigations
- Experiences that demonstrate a process-oriented mindset and ability to scale subject matter expertise and learnings to develop practical standard work solutions and best practices with broad impact across a matrixed organization
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
- Ability to support clients in different time zones in North America
- Ability to travel primarily domestically as needed, perhaps as much as 25-30% of time in some periods
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Working in-house as Labor & Employment counsel
- Canadian Labor & Employment mattersProject management, including change management

The salary range for this role is $220,000-$260,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
