Description

Associate Regulatory Compliance Counsel

STO Building Group is a privately owned family of top-tier builders who operate collaboratively, innovate uniquely, and join powerfully to put our clients first. At STOBG, each of our builders maintains their distinct identity while benefiting from shared resources—real-time data, lessons learned, trade relationships, and collective expertise. This unique structure allows us to take on projects of every scale and complexity, from corporate headquarters and hospitals to data centers and hotels. By drawing on each other’s strengths, we don’t just build amazing spaces—we build careers, foster innovation, and create opportunities for growth.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated legal professional to join our Compliance and Ethics team as Associate Regulatory Compliance Counsel. In this role, you will help shape and implement STOBG’s compliance framework, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies, and ethical business practices. You’ll play a critical role in meaningful work, supporting compliance training, investigations, audits, and risk mitigation strategies, all while partnering with teams across the organization to foster a culture of integrity and accountability.

You will report directly to the VP/Regulatory Compliance Counsel and work closely with a team of experienced legal professionals who are passionate about what they do.

If you’re eager to contribute to a dynamic and engaging environment while developing your expertise in regulatory compliance, we encourage you to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel on compliance and regulatory matters, including adherence to STOBG’s code of conduct, anti-corruption policy, and other corporate policies.
  • Design and deliver engaging, interactive training programs, both live and web-based, for employees at all levels on key compliance topics.
  • Review and enhance internal policies and procedures to ensure alignment with evolving legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop clear, impactful compliance communication materials that reinforce policies, promote ethical business practices, and enhance awareness of compliance obligations.
  • Support data protection and privacy compliance initiatives, including monitoring regulatory developments, developing training, and ensuring companywide implementation.
  • Conduct and support internal investigations, including gathering information, interviewing witnesses, and preparing investigation reports.
  • Assist in mapping the company’s internal controls framework, identifying potential weaknesses, and recommending improvements.
  • Collaborate on compliance audits by helping assess risk areas, providing guidance on regulatory obligations, and ensuring alignment with best practices.
  • Monitor and advise on emerging regulatory and legal developments that could impact business operations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • 3-5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney in compliance, regulatory law, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to draft clear, concise, and persuasive materials for both legal and non-legal audiences.
  • Ability to write internal memoranda of law, policies, and guidance documents for a variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with legal, compliance, audit, and business teams.
  • Experience conducting investigations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in or knowledge of the construction industry or compliance in a project-based environment.
  • Prior experience working with government or regulatory agencies.
  • Familiarity with data protection and privacy laws, compliance program effectiveness metrics, and risk assessments.
