The University of Hawai'i at Manoa William S. Richardson School of Law seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Law (F3, 9-month) whose primary teaching and scholarship interests are in legal writing. The Law School is in the process of transitioning its first year (1L) legal writing program from a hybrid adjunct program to a coordinated course staffed entirely by tenured or tenure-track faculty. The successful candidates will have an opportunity to bring their fresh perspectives to help reshape the course and contribute to our broader, ongoing efforts to revamp the 1L curriculum. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop and teach upper-level writing courses in addition to teaching in the 1L Lawyering Fundamentals program.
Salary commensurate with experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain a professional level of performance and productivity in the field of legal writing.
- Build and maintain expertise in the field of legal writing.
- Work independently and with colleagues to select, develop, and revise curricular materials, instructional techniques, and assessment strategies for legal writing courses.
- Undertake research/scholarly or creative projects in the field of legal writing.
- Contribute to development activities in the law, the law school, and University.
- Provide service and leadership to the law school, University, and community.
- Involved in professional and self-development activities.
- Other duties as assigned by the Dean.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Juris Doctor degree or equivalent terminal degree from a college or university of recognized standing, and a demonstrated ability and/or experience in teaching 1L legal writing in a JD program or demonstrated experience in law practice, legal scholarship, and public service. Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, alumni, government officials, community members, and members of the bar with various backgrounds, and to thrive in multicultural and multidisciplinary contexts.
- Demonstrated understanding of and/or interest in learning about the law in Hawai'i or the Asia-Pacific region.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching upper-level writing courses in a JD program.
- Demonstrated experience in and commitment to teaching law effectively in a variety of modalities, including in-person, online, and hybrid.
