Our Internship Program will provide students the opportunity to gain corporate experience, learn about all aspects of an international Compliance function, and prepare students with the kind of experience needed to have a rewarding career at Sompo. The Legal Intern position will be afforded the opportunity to gain first-hand legal experience supporting various elements of Sompo’s Law Department. This work may include assisting with general corporate law matters (e.g., corporate governance, preparation of resolutions and related materials, etc.), supporting subject matter experts providing shared services to Sompo’s North American and Europe/UK-based clients (e.g., employment law matters, transactions, etc.), assisting with the research and preparation of (re)insurance policy forms, assisting with the review and revision of various contract documents (e.g., master services agreements, data privacy addendum, statements of work, etc.), as well as other activities related to the ongoing operations of the Law Department. Activities, Learning and Development Throughout the program, you will have the opportunity to hear from executive leaders, participate in structured, engaging leadership learnings, participate in networking events and activities with peers, members of our Executive team and outside brokerage firms, and be part of a project to present to their manager and mentor. Duties and Responsibilities • Under the supervision of US-based Law Department counsel: o Assist Sompo’s North American, European, and United Kingdom-based counsel on specific matters and projects requiring the guidance and support of the Law Department. o Conduct legal research and analyze regulator notices and guidance relevant to Sompo’s operations and (re)insurance business. o Review, revise, and draft legal documents, including contracts, memorandum, board resolutions, etc. o Collaborate on inter-disciplinary projects, including those involving practices areas within the Law Department and colleagues in Compliance. o As required, prepare written updates and presentations for department leadership, Sompo management, working groups, and/or Committees. o Learn about the (re)insurance industry through written materials, meetings with departmental colleagues, etc. o Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all aspects of work. Qualifications • Must be enrolled in an accredited university working towards a (i) bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study, including, but not limited to, business administration, legal studies, political science, finance, or accounting, or (ii) juris doctorate degree. • Full-time schedule, 40 hours per week • Minimum GPA requirement of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale • Detail oriented and strong problem solver • Demonstrated positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills, should be able to effectively collaborate and interact with others • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Self-motivated • Ability to manage multiple priorities in order to meet deadlines • Local to the desired office location or able to secure housing and transportation in the area • Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States without restriction Salary Range: ___$22/hr_______Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
