Job Purpose
The Office Paralegal is responsible for preparing and filing key legal documents as well as monitoring and maintaining the ongoing cases. This person will be required to assist with office duties including handing incoming and outgoing mail, answering the phone, notarizing documents and communicating; over the phone, in-person and through email and web portals.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, appeals, responses, objections, and notices.
- Research for missing information and documents, and request from client, if needed.
- Proof read, edit and revise documents as instructed by Attorney and Client.
- File legal documents with using the court’s required method.
- Prepare Attorney for hearings and trials, receive hearing and trial results from Attorney and Court, and communicate results to the client.
- Retrieve, review, and analyze specific dockets and all incoming mail received through the physical mail or through the Court’s Electronic Case Filing system. Make Attorneys and/or clients aware of any situation(s) that may require attention.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Legal experience or an Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies or related field
- Intermediate knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Office Programs
- Ability to type a minimum of 45 WPM
- Strong data entry skills
- Eligible to work in the United States
Working Conditions
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Requirements
The ability to work in an office environment, seated for long periods of time, in front of a computer, while typing documents, responding to emails, managing calendars and answering phones.
This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products, supplies, and files, up to 20 pounds.
