DutiesAn appointment with the U.S. Attorney's Office offers unique and challenging experiences for the highly motivated attorney. Serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) and assigned to the Criminal Division, you will be part of a dedicated team helping to enforce federal criminal laws that protect life, liberty, and property of citizens. The United States Attorney's Office, District of Hawaii is seeking to hire two (2) AUSAs for our Criminal Division who will be assigned unique drug trafficking and immigration responsibilities. Assignments include, but are not limited to, investigating and prosecuting the following:
- Drug trafficking, including trafficking of fentanyl and its precursor chemicals, and illegal drug use.
- Immigration matters, including but not limited to:
- gang-related crimes involving aliens;
- child trafficking and smuggling involving aliens within the United States;
- unlawful voting by aliens;
- firearms trafficking and smuggling involving aliens;
- violations of the Alien Registration Act; and
- violations of or fraud relating to Title IV of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act.
Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.

- $79,469 - $197,100/year

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
United States citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants must possess superior oral and written communication skills, strong legal research and analytical ability, excellent judgment, competence with electronic discovery and modern litigation tools, and impeccable integrity. Applicants must be able to manage demanding workloads and function with minimal guidance when needed. Strong organization and time management skills are essential. Ideal applicants will have prior federal criminal prosecution experience. Candidates without federal criminal prosecution experience but significant litigation experience and a demonstrated ability to learn quickly and perform at a high level are strongly encouraged to apply. Assistant United States Attorneys work closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement, as well as colleagues and support staff, and must work effectively and collegially as part of a team committed to carrying out the Department of Justice's mission. AUSAs receive training by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Suitability and Citizenship: It is the policy of the Department to achieve a drug-free workplace and persons selected for employment will be required to pass a drug test which screens for illegal drug use prior to final appointment. Employment is also contingent upon the completion and satisfactory adjudication of a background investigation.
