The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland is expanding to serve more clients and is seeking a Paralegal to support attorneys in our Economic Justice Practice Group. Paralegals play a critical role in our work, conducting client interviews, maintaining client contact, engaging in community outreach, assisting with advocacy and litigation, managing case files, and supporting office operations.
Focus Areas:
- Representing low-wage workers in employment, unemployment and tax issues, bankruptcy, consumer, and foreclosure matters.

Founded in 1905, Legal Aid is a non-profit law firm dedicated to securing justice, equity, and access to opportunity for people with low incomes. Our team of 135+ staff (including 70+ attorneys) and 3,000 volunteer lawyers serves Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, and Lorain Counties, providing legal representation and engaging in community advocacy and education.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct client intake interviews and prepare related forms and documents.
- Draft pleadings, court forms, letters, discovery, and other legal documents.
- Conduct factual investigations and legal research, including drafting memoranda.
- Organize and maintain electronic and paper case files with detailed documentation.
- Support attorneys in all aspects of representation, including preparing evidence for hearings and trials.
- Conduct outreach, community legal education, and provide appropriate referrals.
- Participate in office meetings and professional development.
- Perform office management and reception duties as needed.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Commitment to Legal Aid’s mission and experience working with low-income communities.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of office experience, preferably in a legal setting.
- Strong organizational, time management, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and case management software.
- High level of professionalism.
- Spanish fluency strongly preferred.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Paralegal 1: $48,000 – $72,000 DOE
- Paralegal 2: $54,000 – $82,000 DOE
- Top third of salary ranges reserved for candidates with deep skills, long tenure, and consistent exceptional performance

Education Requirement: This position is designed for candidates with a paralegal certificate or equivalent experience. Individuals who hold a Juris Doctor (JD) degree or are licensed to practice law will not be considered, as this role is focused on paralegal responsibilities rather than attorney-level practice.
