- Job Summary
The Court Clerk I will assist the Chief and Deputy Court Clerk in the daily functions of the Court. The incumbent will perform clerical functions for the Tribal Court administration.
- Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate with the Chief Court Clerk in management of the Court calendar, schedule, hearings, and dockets.
- Prepare and maintain notifications, court orders, minute entries, legal correspondence, documents, and files.
- Attend court proceedings and prepare accurate records as assigned.
- Assist the public in filing civil petitions and complaints.
- Answer the telephone as principle operator for the Court.
- Work closely with the Chief and Deputy Court clerk on all matters.
- Fill in during the absence of other clerks of the court.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Accept and record all fines, fees, bonds, and child support payments.
- Maintain confidentiality in all court proceedings.
- Issue jury summons and keep records of jury proceedings.
- Maintain an accurate juror list in accordance with the Tribal Code.
- Refer public to appropriate legal authorities.
- Participate in staff trainings when requested.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.
- Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Basic knowledge of court procedures;
- Ability to communicate in English/Spanish,(Yaqui preferred but not required);
- Business English, spelling and arithmetic;
- Clerical processes and office machine operations;
- Chronological, alphabetical, and numerical filing procedures;
- Knowledge of computers;
- Undertake multiple tasks and priorities under pressure;
- Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.

- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public;
- Follow written and verbal instruction;
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
- Operate standard office equipment;
- Planning, organizing and maintaining work flow;

- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with adults and children;
- Make basic mathematical computations with speed and accuracy;
- Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.
- Education, Certifications and Experience Required
High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years of general clerical experience: or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Special Requirements:- Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License;
- This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends.
