About the Role
    
BetMGM is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to support our technology, payments, corporate development, and business strategy needs. This role will play a pivotal role on our dynamic legal team.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, drafts, and negotiates key, high value commercial contracts, including drafting and negotiating contracts, and legal risk management related to B2B payments, fraud, iCasino, and SaaS services.  
  • Adopts a collaborative business-partnering approach to lead negotiations with partners, suppliers, and affiliates across different functions with respect to a wide range of commercial contracts, including marketing, technology, data, and intellectual property contracts.
  • Drafts, maintains, and updates commercial contract template library and repository system, including agreements for payments, fraud tools, licensing, SaaS, master service agreements, and professional service agreements.
  • Proactively identifies and advises on legal issues arising from potential or existing commercial relationships.
  • Assesses risk and uses sound business and legal judgment to make decisions, negotiate deals, and determine priorities to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Inspires confidence in business clients by consistently providing well-reasoned legal advice and practical solutions to complex issues.
  • Exhibits a strong work ethic and takes ownership of complex projects with minimal supervision while demonstrating sound judgment and superior decision-making, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills; meets prescribed deadlines.
  • Demonstrates leadership and team-working skills in support of a collaborative environment.
  • Exhibits utmost professionalism in all settings; is capable of deploying strong advocacy skills in a tactful and effective manner.
  • Consistently produces excellent work product.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, internal clients, and external business partners.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and demonstrates the utmost integrity in all settings.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Deputy General Counsel, which may include support with gaming regulatory, privacy, marketing compliance or corporate record matters.
  • Coordinates cross-functional legal input by working closely with other attorneys in the legal department.
  • Providing legal support to the Payments, Fraud, and other technical teams.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor Degree
  • Minimum of six (6) years’ experience and legal expertise in commercial contract drafting and negotiations
  • Experience drafting and negotiating payments and SaaS contracts is preferred
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state for at least six (6) years
  • Gaming license registration as required by applicable jurisdictions
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Ability to demonstrate and adhere to highest standards of ethics and integrity
  • Substantive knowledge and understanding of legal strategies and principles related to contract drafting and negotiating; ability to analyze and apply legal principles and precedents to legal issues; ability to perform legal research, evaluate alternatives and make sound recommendations
  • Excellent research and writing skills; ability to prepare clear, concise and complete legal documents, reports, correspondence and other communications materials on complex legal issues; ability to communicate effectively in English, in both written and oral forms; ability to make effective public presentations. Candidates may be required to provide a writing sample
  • Ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment, and work with discretion
  • Ability to deal effectively with all business contacts, including government agencies, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, internal clients, and external business partners
  • Sound judgment and superior decision-making, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills; ability to meet prescribed deadlines
  • Basic proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Outlook
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and self-directed and able to work without direct supervision on assigned projects and tasks
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Must be able to stand or sit and operate computers and other technological devices for extended periods of time
The annual salary range for this position is $147,280 to $193,305.  Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.  This position is also eligible for participation in a performance-based bonus plan. 

Gaming Compliance & Licensing Requirements
 
As an online gaming company, BetMGM is required to comply with state gaming regulations which includes licensing obligations.  Applicable employees must be licensed by at least one jurisdictional agency, although certain positions require licensing by multiple agencies.  Failure to become licensed or maintain licensure with each agency as required for the role may result in termination of employment.  Please note that the licensing process includes comprehensive background checks which may include a review of criminal records, financial history, and personal background verification.

In addition, candidates must comply with and support the company's responsible gambling policies, procedures and initiatives.

Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. The position is also eligible for an annual bonus.
