Position: Legal Administrative Assistant

The Legal Administrative Assistant is responsible for all administrative aspects of the department that provides civil legal services to young people, with a focus on providing support for the Center’s immigration practice. The Administrative Assistant reports to a Managing Attorney.
This position also supports our Bronx Youth Center and must be able to travel between our Main Office located at 555 Broome Street, NYC and the Bronx Youth Center located at 2999 Third Avenue in the Bronx.
Responsibilities:
- Greet young people seeking legal services and explain the Legal Services Center’s intake process
- Maintain Center’s calendar, schedule appointments
- Answer phones and respond to general inquiries about services
- Assist with outreach efforts through mailings and telephone contact
- Complete forms documenting members’ contact with Legal Services Center, provide referral information, and coordinate membership services for clients.
- Maintain file and case management database with updates on case status; update client contact information in case file, case management database, and with required courts and agencies in coordination with attorneys and paralegals.
- Assist with administrative aspects in individual cases (collection of immigration fees, delivery and pick up of documents, etc.)
- Manage compliance with contracts, including data entry and quality assurance
- Coordinate events including Fall Kick-Off and Immigrant Youth Night
- Monitor and maintain office supplies
- Process requests for payment
- Orientate new staff and interns
- Coordinate interns: provide training to interns and volunteers
- Complete other responsibilities and functions as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Knowledgeable of and ability to apply positive youth development principles to working with young people
- Experience in an administrative position required, experience in a legal office or organization preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be proficient using MS Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel programs
- Professional proficiency in Spanish required
Work Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm or 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, 35 hours a week
