Description

General Description:

The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform advanced clerical and administrative work and paralegal duties. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. 

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college in paralegal training or related field. Requires two years administrative, paralegal, or paraprofessional experience or closely related experience. An A.A.S. degree in Paralegal Studies is preferred. The equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

Special Certifications and Licenses:

Notary Public of SC

NCIC certification
 


Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Knowledge of court procedures and the ability to prepare legal documents, ensuring proper case management and documentation.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology; has mathematical ability to perform required calculations.
  • Skill in the use of computers for word and data processing; has bookkeeping and data processing skills.
  • Ability to type accurately and at a speed necessary for the successful completion of assigned duties.
  • Ability to produce quality work which requires close attention to detail.
  • Ability to offer assistance to co-workers and employees of other departments as required.
  • Ability to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers.  Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.
  • Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers.  Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.
  • Work is performed onsite.  The incumbent must be present at work to perform the essential functions of this job.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Assists with calendaring as needed for the division and supervisor as needed.
  2. Oversees event planning and meeting attendance.
  3. Prepares case files by running criminal histories, pulling incident reports, requesting videos, requesting DMV records, downloading implied consent videos, preparing officer input forms and sending out victim jury notification letters.
  4. Provides support to attorneys when needed for jury trials by sending out subpoenas, preparing videos, contacting officers, victims, and witnesses for trial.
  5. Sends discovery to defense council on all jury trial cases.
  6. Assist with the disposal of court cases in an efficient manner as per the strategic goal by providing support to getting witnesses to attend hearings/trials, resulting in more efficient movement of cases.
  7. Serves as liaison on various City committees.
  8. Performs additional duties as assigned to meet organizational needs.
