SALARY GRADE: Grade 13

***THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO CURRENT JUDICIAL BRANCH EMPLOYEES ONLY***
You must be a permanent full-time or permanent part-time or grant-funded Judicial Branch employee to be eligible for this position. Contract and temporary employees are not eligible for consideration.

The Indigent Defense Services (IDS) division is seeking a qualified Accounting Specialist II to assist with the Accounts Payable team. The 5-member team processes approximately 150,000 fee applications per year from attorneys and experts appointed by the Court. The Accounts Payable team codes, audits, and processes the fee applications in the NC Financial System (NCFS). Staff responds to email and phone inquiries from vendors and Clerk's offices on a regular basis. Each team member may also processes certain other invoices (trade vendors, employee reimbursement) and assists with other functions of the division. This position requires attention to detail, the ability to organize and process high volume submissions, familiarity with the NCFC, and good communication skills. Basic computer and spreadsheet skills are also important.

In this position, you will have an opportunity for some hybrid/remote work.

Salary
  • $41,502 - $61,020/year
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Knowledge of: specialized fiscal and accounting principles and financial systems procedures; North Carolina State Accounting System and Chart of Accounts; vendor management and procedures; computer application software; and General Statutes that govern budget and accounting policies.

Skills in: Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, Adobe, Outlook, MS Teams).

Ability to: perform routine mathematical computations; analyze financial reports and reconcile accounts; compile financial data and prepare accounting reports; understand, interpret, and implement administrative and fiscal guidelines and procedures; trouble shoot and resolve procedural problems; communicate effectively with state agency and court personnel; and work independently and within a team environment.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate's degree in Accounting; or graduation from high school and two (2) years of experience with accounts payables in a general accounting office environment.

Management prefers candidates with experience in processing invoices in the NCFS. Basic Knowledge of accounting processes and procedures.
