Position Summary:
This is a newly created position and exceptional opportunity for an experienced real estate attorney to make a meaningful impact to the growth story of Invitation Homes. The Company is seeking an attorney with solid real estate and real estate finance experience coupled with sound business acumen. Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of Company’s real estate portfolio including both owned and third-party managed homes across multiple jurisdictions.
- Lead and manage all real estate transactions, including drafting, negotiating, reviewing real estate documents, including purchase and sale agreements, leases, lease amendments, subleases, easements, construction contracts, access agreements, SNDAs, estoppels, vendor and service provider contracts, broker agreements, license agreements, management agreements, partnership agreements and various other documents and agreements relevant to the company’s real estate needs
- Coordinate all aspects of the transactional and post-closing process for major real estate transactions, including due diligence, title, survey, and environmental reviews, and addressing zoning and permitting issues.
- Work closely with internal clients on property management issues, including maintenance, defaults, rent discrepancies, surrender, etc.
- Advise on property management issues for the company owned and third-party portfolios.
- Support the Company's real estate joint ventures, including structuring, governance, compliance, capital contributions, profit/loss allocations, and exit strategies.
- Act as a legal liaison with third-party owners, institutional partners, and joint venture stakeholders to ensure clear alignment with joint venture agreements, management agreements, reporting obligations, and service standards, as applicable.
- Support corporate and operational teams on strategic initiatives, including scaling into new markets, technology rollouts, and standardizing legal processes.
- Collaborate closely with internal departments (acquisitions and dispositions, operations, asset management, finance, rehabs, turns and management) to deliver legally sound, business-forward solutions.
Requirements:
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and member in good standing of at least one state bar, preferably Texas.
- Five (5) plus years’ real estate experience in a well-regarded law firm or comparable corporate environment
- Significant experience with commercial real estate transactions required and exposure to real estate finance and joint venture transactions is preferred.
- Significant understanding and experience with trials and other forms of dispute resolution.
- Proven ability to manage and conduct internal investigations.
- Excellent business acumen and ability to communicate effectively across the organization.
- Strong interpersonal skills, excellent character, and collaborative, hands-on attitude is necessary to excel in this organization.
- Ability to foster relationships and individual accountability across the organization.
- Ability to identify opportunities for improvement and to facilitate the implementation of creative solutions.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of and effectively solve problems.
