SUMMARY:

The Centralized Legal Department Manager I is responsible for managing a department that handles legal accounts, and legal activity related to accounts that have been transferred into centralized operations. Responsibilities include implementing processes and strategies to ensure full compliance with federal laws and regulations, while functioning at a highly efficient pace.  The Centralized Legal Department Manager I role will also evaluate current company legal strategies, recommending process improvements and identifying additional opportunities to mitigate company losses.

MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead Centralized Legal team handling the processes within the centralized legal department
  • Interact with inside and outside counsel as needed
  • Ensure specific state legal guidelines are met in order to properly manage judgment, garnishment and other legal processes
  • Create/improve/manage processes and strategies specific to legal account handling
  • Research, summarize and resolve any issues arising from adversary inquiries or interrogatories (complaints, depositions, etc.)
  • Manage matters relating to hiring, staffing, training, scheduling, performance reviews and terminations as applicable
  • Engage and report business results to multiple levels of senior management across the organization
  • Engage and manage, as needed, additional and necessary activities related to proper handling of accounts in the legal process
  • Other duties as assigned

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable education or related industry experience
  • Working knowledge of multiple state, county and local jurisdiction requirements
  • Knowledge of legal collections processes and procedures, third-party vendor processes, payment solutions, payment negotiations and compliance with legal standards
  • 5-10 years consumer finance Legal experience
  • Ability to work independently
  • Personnel management experience
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel and Word applications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Paralegal certification or higher
  • Demonstrated ability to lead operations of scale and complexity
  • Demonstrated ability, or potential ability, to lead process across multiple sites
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills – ability to create strong relationships across multiple organizational layers

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office environment – Centralized Operations
  • Limited travel – less than 10%
