Job Description
Paralegal services are required so that OTDA‘s OAH can issue written fair hearing decisions in a timely manner. OAH seeks up to 20 full-time Paralegals in Albany County to draft decisions after fair hearings based on written guidance from the presiding Administrative Law Judge, evidence, audio recordings, and standardized, proprietary decision drafting software. Paralegals may be directed to listen to hearings as they happen and state their appearance on the record.
Administrative Law Judges will provide Paralegals with recommended outcomes, credibility assessments, and other relevant information required for Paralegals to utilize proprietary decision drafting software to create a draft decision including correct and relevant law, findings of fact, analysis, and directives.
Services will be provided Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm, eastern time, in accordance with New York State’s official work schedule. All Paralegals are to work 7.50 hours each day, allowing for a 30-minute lunch break. Two fifteen-minute breaks, one in the am hours and one in the pm hours are allowed on state time. Breaks may not be used to shorten the workday.
Paralegal Requirements:
Paralegals must:
A) Be professional and provide drafted decisions in the timeframe provided.
B) Possess paralegal certification.
C) Have a minimum of two years of experience providing complex clerical level legal support services to an attorney.
D) Have excellent verbal and written communication skills, an understanding of legal
language and principles, and strong organizational and analytical skills.
E) Maintain confidentiality and agree to non-disclosure agreements maintained by the
Contractor and available for inspection by OTDA (See Attachment A).
F) Access systems and complete all assignments within the 48 contiguous United States and the District of Columbia.
