Job Summary: The Complex Claims Counsel will provide support and guidance to CSB and its clients on complex claims. Such support includes working with CSB’s clients, assigned defense counsel and insurance carriers on developing litigation and/or resolution strategy and coordinating the tower of insurance carriers through the crucial times of the claim’s lifecycle. In addition, the Complex Claims Counsel will provide advice and counsel on insurance coverage issues and advocate for insurance coverage as appropriate. This role will support Conner Strong & Buckelew’s Claims Management Team, which is a differentiating service in the insurance brokerage industry. The Complex Claims Counsel will support the claims team and focus on providing excellent service to our clients. This role demands a deep understanding of litigation practices and insurance coverage nuances. The candidate must be a creative problem solver.
Principal Responsibilities
- Lead the resolution of complex claims by engaging with key stake holders to develop and drive a strategy on complex claims.
- Be able to engage with and advise C-Suite of CSB clients.
- Provide advice on insurance coverage issues and be able to develop and lead a strategic approach to obtaining insurance coverage either though advocacy and/or strategic negotiations with insurance carriers.
- Develop relationships with key carrier contacts and law firms to ensure CSB’s clients’ needs are met effectively.
- Conduct legal research to analyze reservation of rights and declinations and prepare appropriate responses to such letters on behalf of CSB’s clients.
- Assist CSB’s Claim Advocacy & Consulting Team with appropriate advice and consultation on complex claims and/or coverage disputes and assist in developing team members’ expertise.
- Educate CSB and its clients on emerging coverage trends that impact CSB and our clients.
- Assist CSB Claim Advocacy & Consultation Team by providing coverage analysis on various lines of coverage, including but not limited to property & casualty lines of coverage including but not limited to general liability, professional liability, directors’ and officers’ liability and property insurance.
- Work closely with internal team to support business needs and enhance client service delivery.
Requirements
- Experience in litigating complex liability claims in state and federal courts (preferably covered by insurance).
- Deep understanding of tort liability in the United States.
- Strong understanding of insurance coverage law.
- Experience in presenting to the C-Suite and large audience.
- Well-versed in all property & casualty lines of coverage including but not limited to general liability, professional liability, directors’ and officers’ liability and property insurance.
- Expertise in navigating complex coverage disputes.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret intricate policy language and legal concepts.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the capacity to handle multiple high-priority tasks simultaneously.
- Proven ability to develop and implement strategic legal solutions in a high-pressure environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in Conner Strong & Buckelew’s Strong team environment.
- Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without Company sponsorship.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
Specialized Knowledge or Licenses
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and is in good standing in the Bars of Pennsylvania and/or New Jersey.
- Independent, flexible, self-starter who can multi-task and delegate effectively.
- Strong problem solving and “can do” attitude.
- A minimum of 7-10 years’ of litigation experience.
- Proven track record in managing complex coverage disputes and providing strategic legal advice.
