January 20, 2025 Attorney Landlord Tenant Law

Job Description

Legal Services of Greater Miami and its 40 lawyers have provided legal representation to low-income communities for over 55 years. The firm is a leader in the legal aid community and has been recognized for its creative and aggressive advocacy for clients.

Legal Services is accepting applications from attorneys admitted to the Florida Bar who have a commitment and passion for social, economic, and racial justice and want to protect the rights of low-income tenants living in Miami-Dade and Monroe County. This position involves significant litigation.

Legal Services is currently funded by Miami-Dade County and HUD to provide legal representation to tenants facing eviction. The attorney hired for this position will represent tenants facing eviction from their home, primarily in county court under summary procedure. The attorney is responsible for their own caseload and the attorney’s duties will include interviewing clients, drafting pleadings, conducting depositions, negotiating with opposing parties, assisting with rental assistance applications, and representing tenants in court. Because evictions have short deadlines, this project involves fast-paced litigation, often responding to emergencies. The attorney should have significant negotiation skills. The attorney will conduct client intake, conduct home visits, conduct education workshops for tenants, work with pro bono attorneys, complete administrative tasks, and participate in client outreach.

Excellent benefit package and competitive non-profit salary. Comprehensive fringe benefits package includes paid holidays, paid vacation (which after two years, increases to four weeks per year), sick leave (12 days per year), and five additional leave days. Our benefits include fully paid health insurance for employee & dependents, fully paid dental coverage for employees, dependents may also be included at a minimum fee, fully paid life insurance and Long-Term Disability policy as well as retirement savings plans with employer contributions after six months of service.
