We are looking for an experienced labor and employment attorney to join our team! This role, Senior Counsel, Labor and Employment, will be responsible for strategic management of labor and employment law matters for US Enbridge companies, including for Enbridge Gas Ohio, and for providing legal advice relating to enterprise-wide labor and employment issues, policies, and procedures.

What You Will Do:This senior level legal professional provides legal advice and services to management on legal issues of a difficult and complex nature. The incumbent will demonstrate broad business and technical knowledge in resolving issues, project management, and identifying opportunities, and has a keen awareness of interrelationships with other stakeholders.
The incumbent thinks innovatively and strategically, and provides daily advice and counsel on a broad range of US labor and employment laws and regulations including Human Resources support, labor relations, compensation (including compliance with the FLSA), internal investigations, immigration, Company policies and guidelines, employee time away from work (leaves of absence, including FMLA and medical leave), disability accommodations, and employee discipline.
Responsibilities will include all matters related to employees, many of whom are in collective bargaining units, including, but not limited to, labor negotiations, arbitrations, unfair labor practice charges, employment litigation, discrimination complaints, accommodation matters, use of background checks and other Fair Credit Reporting Act matters, reductions in force, responding to requests for employee information, responding to employee garnishment notices and records subpoenas, reviewing and drafting policies and procedures related to employee matters, executive compensation and drafting of various forms of employment agreements.
Additional duties will focus on matters arising out of joint employment and co-employment, including matters arising under the National Labor Relations Act, federal contractor regulations, and employee rights & employer responsibilities, including interacting with the Department of Labor, NLRB, EEOC, and other state and federal agencies and departments.
The incumbent will support Human Resources due diligence teams, advise on risk, and negotiate employment terms and conditions in mergers, acquisitions and divestitures.
The incumbent will maintain the highest confidences and integrity in directing, managing, or participating in internal investigations in conjunction with HR and Compliance groups.
The incumbent will provide training for Human Resources and management personnel regarding matters related to employment law developments and individual liability for compliance matters, as well as matters related to joint employment.
The incumbent will be responsible for managing outside counsel, including budget management, where they may provide support in these areas.
The incumbent will assist with internal reporting, tracking and budgeting of litigated matters, and assist with financial reporting, loss contingency reserves, and reporting to the Company’s external auditors.

be expected to provide guidance and supervision to attorneys, and to paralegal and support staff.
typically work directly with staff at up to the Director level but may work with staff at all levels of the organization, including with senior leaders;
work with other members of Legal Services, including U.S. and Canadian labor & employment counsel and benefits counsel;
work with Human Resources and Ethics and Compliance departments, including with team members who perform investigations, and who develop and administer health & welfare and compensation plans.

This position has no direct reports or formal indirect reports, but may direct support staff, including legal assistants and paralegals on specific tasks or functions.
Who You Are:have a JD degree from an accredited law school.
Have a minimum of eight years of experience with extensive knowledge in a broad spectrum of labor and employment law matters, particularly with collective bargaining units.
be licensed to practice law in at least one state.
Have collaborative, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, negotiation and legal reasoning skills.
Have the ability to work effectively and efficiently with others in a diverse and dynamic enterprise and coordinate a variety of internal and external activities having legal significance to the Company.
have a flexible and pragmatic, collaborative approach to problem solving.

have strong organizational skills.
Experience in public utilities or energy industry is a plus.
In-house litigation management experience is a plus.
For US Only:Salary: Ranges from $165,800 – $210,000 based upon experience

Grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, reads fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
